Bright Eyes
You hide your true self
Choosing to sacrifice your identity
So as to be seen by others,
Rather than be disregarded.
You forfeit the careless way you used to run across the golden sky
Arms outstretched,
As you search for the sun’s warmth.
You abandon the random flurries underneath the watchful eye of the night sky
The gaze of the moonlight
Softly flitting across your skin
Leaving behind a milky print
And a silvery glow.
Your childlike sense of wonder
Traded in for a sense of incredulity
Spontaneity warped into inhibition
Bright eyes dulled by reality
You start to shed your multilayered skin
Blending in with the rest of them
Until rather than being seen for your oddities
You are disregarded for your uniformity
